A middle school teacher encourages one of his students, in whom he sees a talented but yet undeveloped writer, to write more. And Claude writes about a family of his friend to whom he gives math lessons. He gets deeper and deeper in the private life of this family, while observing and eavesdropping in the house. Not only he observes the reality, but often manipulates it to get the desired story twist. He manages to tie up previously unconnected lives, but does not notice how he himself becomes part of the story he writes, and no longer distinguishes real people from the characters on paper. Trying to become a true part of a normal, average middle class family, which he does not have himself, he does not see that there is no place for him.
